Medical Expertise
Besides collaborating in weekly specialty-specific case conferences and tumor boards, the medical team continually pursues opportunities that expand our knowledge and provide positive benefits for our patients. Our staff participates in state-of-the-art clinical research and trials. Many members of our medical community have faculty appointments at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, training young physicians in their various specialties. Recently the DeCesaris Cancer Institute earned three-year program approval with commendation from the American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer. The accreditation indicates that we have complied with all 36 designated standards set by the Commission in areas such as patient care, nursing, clinical outcomes and community outreach. According to Commission on Cancer, just 25 percent of all cancer centers in United States hospitals receive three-year approval.
Dedicated Tumor Boards and Multidisciplinary Case ConferencesThe DeCesaris medical team takes a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care. Case conferences and tumor boards provide opportunities for specialists on the various types of cancer to collaborate with radiation oncologists, pathologists, medical oncologists, radiologists and surgeons. Regular conferences discuss cases involving breast, thoracic, brain and spine, gastrointestinal, colon, prostate, and pancreatic cancers, as well as other aspects of cancer treatment and care.
